Glasses can enhance a person’s look—but in wedding photography, they can also create serious challenges. From flash reflections to lenses that darken in sunlight, these issues can hide your subject’s eyes and reduce image quality.
Fortunately, there are simple, professional solutions that can make a big difference.
Using flash—especially during receptions or indoor ceremonies—can cause light to bounce off eyeglass lenses. This creates bright white glare or haze that can completely block the eyes.
Photochromic (transition) lenses automatically darken outdoors. While useful in daily life, they can become a major issue during outdoor wedding photography. Once they darken, the subject’s eyes may no longer be visible in photos.
One of the most effective ways to avoid both glare and darkened lenses is to use glasses without lenses during key moments.
Many eyewear stores can provide demo or loaner frames. If the glasses were purchased there, they may even remove the lenses temporarily. Some shops may require a deposit.
An older pair can often have the lenses removed. This keeps the subject’s familiar look while eliminating reflections and darkening issues.
For formal portraits, some clients may choose to go without glasses altogether. This isn’t ideal for everyone, but it can be a simple alternative.
Frames without lenses look completely natural in photos. Most people won’t notice any difference—but the camera will. You’ll capture clean, sharp images with clear, visible eyes and no distractions.
Discuss this during your pre-wedding consultation. Planning ahead ensures your client has time to arrange a solution and avoids last-minute stress.
Clear, visible eyes are essential in great wedding photography. By preventing flash glare and avoiding darkened lenses, you ensure your images stay clean, natural, and professional.
These tips are simply suggestions to help you look your best on your special day and in your wedding photos. Brought to you by Niagara Wedding Chapel.
